Thirteen countries with a total of 28 representative cosplayers performed in the Championship in front of 12,000 visitors. The maids themselves tend to enjoy anime and manga and other aspects of otaku culture, allowing them to create further connections with their patrons. The wearing of costumes is an important part of holidays developed from religious festivals such as Mardi Gras (in the lead up to Easter), and Halloween (related to All Hallow’s Eve).
